Master Gardeners Take Top Honors...

Santa Rosa County Master Gardeners have won many State Awards of Excellence from UF/IFAS.  Statewide each year, only one Award of Excellence in each of thirteen categories is presented, so these awards are highly competitive.

  • Award of Excellence for Extension Awareness, for our work at the South County Service Center Diagnostic Clinic

  • Alice W. Burlingame Award, presented to Hank H. for his work at the Milton Avalon Center
  • Award of Excellence for Beautification, for the Navarre Nature Walk Wildflower Garden

  • Award of Excellence, Service to 4-H and/or other Youth, for Growing Gardeners Program Instructional Book

  • Award of Excellence, General Achievement, for the Gulf Coast Gardening from the Ground Up educational series - Frank L. and Jacque L., Chairs
  • Award of Excellence, Special Audiences, for Marge's H's Adaptive Gardening Program.

  • Award of Excellence, County Displays/Exhibits, acknowledging the creative and fun Pest-A-Hut display
  • Award of Excellence, Youth, for the Panhandle Butterfly House Kiderpillar program
  • Santa Rosa County Master Gardeners Sally M. and Johanne F. were recognized for their Twenty Years of Volunteer Service to the Florida Master Garden Program.
  • Spirit Award was given to Let's Grow Butterflies exhibit at the Santa Rosa County Fair held in Milton on March 31st through April 4th, 2009.
  • Award of Excellence, General Achievement, for the Master Gardeners' efforts in presenting the 2007 TREEmendous Field Day
  • Recognition as an Outstanding Exhibit at the Pensacola Fair: Let's Grow Butterflies presented by the Master Gardeners Class of 2008

2009 ...

  • The Panhandle Butterfly House project received the 2009 Curtis Kingsbery Education Award from the Francis M. Weston Audubon Society on May 28th, 2009. The awards is for "increasing awareness of Florida's biological diversity through the study of butterflies and their habitats".
  • NACAA Search for Excellence Award in Landscape Horticulture granted to the Santa Rosa County Master Gardener Coordinator, Theresa Friday.
  • NACAA National Winner - Newsletter team: Panhandle Butterfly House, Santa Rosa County Master Gardener Coordinator, Theresa Friday.
  • NACAA National Winner - Consumer Horticulture Newsletter: 'Gardening in the Panhandle' - Residential Horticulture Agent: Theresa Friday, and  Commercial Horticulture/Vegetables Agent: Dan Mullins, among other agents.
  • Florida Association of County Agents Award granted to Theresa Friday in Orlando, in August.
